ANTHONY, PJ

Wife of Chick, in her last years suffered from a form of dementia and died at L’Hermitage, St Peter. We wish to offer our deepest thanks to the staff.

Joy was a leading light in conservation, winning a 20 year battle to ‘Put the Heart back in Ealing’. She worked in Family Planning, taught ex-offenders to read, and for many years was a Magistrate. She was a fine soprano and poet.

They lived in Grouville until Chick’s death. Joy was a frequent judge at the Battle of Flowers.

Partly due to Joy, Jersey Zoo is renewing the reptile house. Our tortoise, from a pet shop, grew and grew. We joked it was a Galapagos but when Joy took Jess to a Chelonian society they said Jess is ‘endangered’, a Marginated tortoise. Chick took Jess to the zoo and helped save the species. Joy often went to watch the eggs hatch.

Please support the Durrell Tortoise Takeover or send flowers to L’Hermitage in her name.

There will not be a funeral event.
