LE MARQUAND, Francis (Danny)

JTC Jersey Wanderers are sad to hear of the passing of one of our greats, Francis (Danny) Le Marquand. An outstanding Channel Islands footballer, Danny won 11 Muratti caps and set a unique record by making an unbroken 232 appearances for the club’s senior side. He was elected as the youngest ever President of Jersey Wanderers in 1968, a post he held for 13 years. On leaving that role, Danny was accorded the position of Honorary Life President, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the club.

The Club would like to extend its sympathy to Danny’s family and friends at this sad time.

BARRY, Bernard

A year ago today, Bernard Barry, beloved husband of Mave (Nain), father to Gemma, Liam and Joe, and best friend to Otto, died suddenly while on holiday in France.

Due to coronavirus restrictions, we haven’t yet been able to give him the send-off he deserved.

In the meantime, if you were a friend of Bernie’s, please raise a glass of wine or a cup of tea in honour of a man who enlivened every room he walked into, and who gave his family years of love, happiness and laughter. We thought we’d have many more.

We will be forever grateful to all the Angel carers at Le Petit Bosquet for filling Mum’s days with tenderness and love. A special thanks goes to activities co-ordinator Milen Rakleov. Our deepest gratitude goes to Father Matthew King for his most gentle kindness to our Mum on her last journey and the beautiful funeral service he led for Mum that gave us all so much comfort and peace during this deeply sad time.

God saw you getting tired,

So he put his arms around you and whispered,

“Come with me”

With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you fade away,

Although we love you dearly,

We could not make you stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,

Your tender hands at rest,

God took you home to prove to us he only takes the best.
