A brave battle fought, stoic to the end. Died on Sunday, 22 March, 2015, at Jersey Hospice aged 74 years, loving husband to Maureen and father to Ruairidh, Lucette and Kathryn, Grandad to Kimberley and Chantelle and brother to Eric. He will be sorely missed by family and friends in Scotland, Australia, USA and Ireland. The Face of FatherhoodYou came to Jersey in ’62 and found your Miss Moneypenny. Then came wedding bells, Parisienne smells and Ruairidh, Lucette and me. You were the face, the saving grace of what a Dad should be. (You sometimes wonder if the decision you took was the right one. )The choice you made, the right one Dad, was the making of us three. You taught us to be strong and independent and to stand on our own two feet. To stick things out, to hold our heads high and not to give a sheet. You had many tough times and not many men would stick by their family but you stuck with us and gave it your best and you need to know how grateful we are, all three. You gave us your opinion to which we listened with intent; we’d consider it and then sometimes go our own way ’cause, just like you, we can be stubborn and hellbent. If all men on earth could be a fraction of the man you were the world would be a better place, you never acknowledged just how deserving you were of ‘The Face’. So we the Fleming Brood give you, our Sir Iain Fleming, The Face of Fatherhood. Humble, stubborn, kind, selfless, and with a heart of solid gold. Quick-tempered, loud, a great cook, a teacher, Scots and proud. Wise, genuine, sincere, all these words to describe our Dad are clearly not enough, to pay homage to a man who was to us, resilient and tough. No words can express our loss.
